Terms of Use

These terms apply to use of Stockton Residents Directory, a privately operated reference to public records, official search portals, and historical collections. The reference is not a government office and does not host the underlying Stockton, San Joaquin County, California, or court records. By using the pages, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the service.

1. What This Service Is

Stockton Residents Directory describes and links to public rolls, record indexes, court searches, libraries, archives, and directory collections concerning Stockton and San Joaquin County. It does not own or maintain the government records described. A linked office, library, court, or state agency remains the custodian of its own information.

2. Rules for Lawful Use

Use the service and anything reached through it only for lawful purposes. You may not use it to:

  • Stalk, harass, intimidate, threaten, or harm any person.
  • Locate someone protected by a restraining order, Safe at Home, or another confidentiality process.
  • Commit identity theft, fraud, deception, or an unlawful intrusion into an account.
  • Make a decision regulated by the FCRA, including credit, employment, housing, insurance, or tenant screening.
  • Scrape, copy, or republish the reference at scale.
  • Interfere with the operation, security, or availability of the pages or their forms.

3. No Consumer Reporting Agency

Stockton Residents Directory is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, 15 U.S.C. section 1681 and following. Nothing in the reference, and no result from a linked search tool, is a consumer report. No result may be used to judge eligibility for credit, employment, housing, insurance, or another FCRA-covered purpose.

4. Outside Links and Tools

Government portals, libraries, archives, courts, and sponsored search tools operate under their own terms and policies. Stockton Residents Directory does not control their content, uptime, price, security, data practices, or results. A link is provided as a reference path and is not an endorsement or guarantee.

5. No Warranties

The service is supplied on an “as is” and “as available” basis. No warranty is made that a page, link, office schedule, fee, coverage statement, or external portal is accurate, complete, current, secure, or available. Verify a record and its current rules with the custodian before relying on it.

6. Limits on Liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, the operators are not liable for direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or similar damages arising from use of the reference or a linked resource. This includes decisions, costs, or disputes based on a record found through a page or external tool.

7. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless the operators of Stockton Residents Directory from a claim, demand, loss, or expense, including reasonable attorney fees, that arises from your misuse of the service or breach of these terms.

8. Intellectual Property

The original writing, design, logo, and layout belong to the operators or their licensors and are protected by copyright. Linking to a page and quoting a brief, attributed excerpt is allowed. Full-page republication, systematic copying, automated extraction, and commercial redistribution are not allowed without permission.

9. Changes to These Terms

The terms may be revised by posting an updated version. The revised text applies from its posting date. Continued use after a change indicates acceptance of the updated terms.

10. Suspension or Termination

The operators may block, limit, or end access for a user who violates these terms, abuses a form, threatens another person, attacks the service, or creates a security risk. Access may be restricted without advance notice when necessary to protect the service or users.

11. Governing Law

These terms are governed by California law, without applying conflict-of-law principles. California's public-records framework is the California Public Records Act, Government Code sections 7920.000 through 7931.000. California consumer privacy rights are addressed in the California Consumer Privacy Act and California Privacy Rights Act, Civil Code section 1798.100 and following, subject to their scope and exceptions. Those statutes govern custodial or business obligations and do not turn this private reference into a records office.

12. Severability

If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, that part is limited or removed only as needed. The remaining provisions continue in effect.

13. Questions

Questions about these terms may be sent through the Contact page. Requests for a public record, correction, certification, privacy review, or deletion from a government file must go to the office that holds the record.
